Holiday Cheer from Your Hosts at Thursday Happy Hour!
We’ve been celebrating Thursday Happy Hours for a while now — as you can see from this photo of us apparently taken in 1957. Okay, sure, Gary is handy with the Photoshop, but we still had a great time sipping Stingers — our holiday favorite — and being silly with a trip-pod and camera remote while winter tunes thumped the house. Doesn’t everyone do this kind of thing during the holidays?
|The Inspiration: My first introduction to the Stinger is in Cary Grant’s 1957 film Kiss Them for Me.
Grant is a Navy war officer on shore leave in San Francisco. Of course a raucous party ensues. As he walks through the crowded scene he is gleefully topping off everyone’s cocktail glass with with his shaker full of Stingers. I had to try one.
I am a longtime martini fan, but around the holidays the Stinger takes its place.
|The Drink Recipe: Stinger
Shake over ice till really icy. Like really icy. Serve the minty-fresh concoction to all your friends in December.
If you’re not crazy about brandy, use gin instead, and you’ll have a White Way.
Seriously, don’t drink these and drive anywhere. We worry.
