We’ve been experimenting with new ways to stay in touch with friends and family who live far away. Skype is super fun to see friends while chatting, but it’s also just one connection at a time and you have to sit very still (or carefully carry your computer and drink around — not recommended).

So tonight, Thursday, April 2, at 6pm PST, we’re inviting all our friends (and followers) to join us on Twitter for a digital cocktail party. It’s a bit of a social experiment. And it’s taking some … oh, persuasion … to get certain people signed up.

Imagine, fearful newbies, experienced Tweeting pros, and us all sipping cocktails together — virtually. I really can’t wait. Oh, what will we talk about?

The Inspiration

We’re not avid Tweeters by any account. But we are enjoying this way of connecting with people who have similar interests. Gary has found some fab photographers. And I found a whole posse of Web editors and content strategists.

But so many of our friends and colleagues are hesitant to join — oh! And yes, be careful what you say. You are on a very public, very permanent soap box. But how fun is that?

~Shelly & Gary

The Cocktail: Pegu

  • 2 oz gin
  • 3/4 oz orange liquor or triple sec
  • 1/2 oz fresh squeezed lime juice (about one quarter of a lime) — we may cheat and use the rest of our Palm Springs lemons, which will make the Pegu more like a Journalist
  • 2-3 dashes Angostura bitters or orange bitters (or both)

Shake all ingredients over ice. Shake again. Strain into cocktail glass. Garnish, if desired, with lime wedge. Cheers!

Be smart, safe, and healthy. Drink in moderation. Don’t drink and spill on your iPhone or laptop. No matter how funny the Tweet. Or how slurpy delicious the cocktail. Your hosts at Thursday Happy Hour thank you.
