Whiskey Sour Lemons and Cocktail for Thursday Happy Hour by Gary Allard

The Lemons Made Us Do It

Post-Memorial Day means white pants, frosty drinks, and flip-flops for at least five months (for us)! Pre-Memorial Day includes bourbon, ginormous lemons with brainy skin, and sister-talk about selling original art, the meaning of Ansel Adams: A Life’s Work at MoPA, and how to be yoga instructor. All while the guys sip their sours. This kick-off to summer couldn’t be better.

The Prediction:We’re gonna go right out and say it. Bold, I know. But we think BOURBON is going to be the drink of summer 2009.

How do we know? We don’t. But you agree, don’t you.

The Cocktail:  Whiskey Sour

  • 2 oz bourbon whiskey (we used Elijah Craig 12 year)
  • 1 oz fresh squeezed lemon juice
  • 3/4 oz simple syrup (here’s how to make it)
  • Garnish: cherry and orange slice

Combine ingredients in a shaker of ice. Shake and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a speared cherry and small orange slice.

Be smart, safe, and healthy. Drink only in moderation, please. This mixed drink is crazy puckery addictive and may make you do odd things such as hold pairs of produce up to pairs of body parts — even when you haven’t had more than a sip. So just imagine. Or don’t.
