The Easmor Alexander Cocktail, midcentury modern cocktail

Naked Weather in Palm Springs

Warm, dry air. Bright stars. Clean, fresh citrusy scents. In the desert, when it’s warm enough to wear barely anything but still cool enough to be outside, we call it naked weather. If you can, schedule some vacation time in the desert. Camp in Joshua Tree. Or rent a private midcentury modern vacation home in Palm Springs with your friends. Spending Thursday Happy Hour outside by the fire, and even better, in the pool, are just some of the most memorable moments in life.

This photo was taken by the pool at The Easmor Alexander in Palm Springs, California, a midcentury modern vacation rental home. Which makes sense, because this cocktail recipe is inspired by classic midcentury ingredients. (By the way, everything in the photo was available at the house! Except the gin, of course.)

The Easmor Alexander Cocktail

2 oz gin
1/2 oz triple sec (we make our own) or orange curaçao
1/2 oz Galliano, an herbal liqueur
juice from half a lemon (we used Meyer lemon, which is sweeter and less tart — and we had tons on the Easmor tree this year)
2 dashes orange bitters

Combine all ingredients and shake well with ice cubes. Strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with a lemon twist.

A variation we like to call Jack’s Easmor Alexander is to substitute the Galliano with Luxardo Maraschino liqueur. This is another magical ingredient (the Luxardo, not Jack. Well, Jack too.)
